Key West Artist, Ronny Bailey
Ronny Bailey's artwork was born out of the artist’s passion for the local Key West architecture of century old wooden houses. Each house is a local address that is either still there or once was a part of the old town. Ronny Bailey is a fourth generation native (also known as a “conch”) that has hands on knowledge of the local historic homes developed thru his repair and restoration work over the past 30 years. Ronny has rescued and salvaged the old Dade County pine as well as the original roofing. This limited historical material has been magically transformed back to the beauty of old Key West. Ronny’s houses are so life like they fool the eye. You feel as if you can walk right onto the porch.
The coloration of each piece of art is the Dade County pine’s original patina. Patina that only years of sun, and past hurricanes, could transform into the beauty it shows today. The roof for each house is crafted from the historical metal roofing of past homes, most well over 80 years old. Each piece on the artwork is handmade, from the shutters, to chairs, lights and even the chickens-all from the old wood or the old metal.
